I agree with most of what you wrote, but the big men they have remaining if Embiid goes down and Jah is traded don't give positive WAR vs. the rest of the NBA. Holmes can't rebound, Nerlens is still learning to play offense and is a FA after this year, and Simmons and Saric are 4's, not 5's, even in today's NBA--neither one protects the rim, even as well (poorly) as Jah does.

I really wouldn't trade Okafor unless I got full value for him, which is more than the #3 pick.

He would be a FA after this season. I would certainly trade him straight up for the #3 pick, but I can't imagine the Celtics would.

I honestly don't see the value in trading Okafor. He is what you hope the #3 pick becomes, an offensive force. His defense is not great, but it is not as horrible as is being portrayed in my opinion.

Trading him is a step backwards.

We can get a PG in FA or in a lesser trade. We don't need a great PG,, just a competent one this season, we are not competing for a championship, trading young assets for a short term improvement is a sure way to fail.

I would trade Noel for the #3 pick because he is due to be a FA, but I cannot imagine The Celtics being foolish enough to trade the pick for a 1 year defensive rental.

If Boston offers you the #3 pick for Embiid or Okafor, which one would you be more willing to trade?

No one is offering anything of value for Embiid until he actually plays.

It'll be Noel and Okafor shopped and I hope Noel is dealt. The reason is I value them roughly the same and Noel is two years closer to his payday.

Chad Ford does certain team's bidding. The Celtics and the Lakers have both the most entitled fan bases and front offices. This is when I wish Hinkie was still around. I trusted his view of value better than Colangelo.

Agreed. Okafor isn't perfect, but if he was in this draft it would be a toss-up between he and Ingram to be pick #2.

If you listen to the rumors there is a clear plan ... to continue to develop players and once they are proven to be quality trade them for picks.

This is the plan used by the Montreal Expos. You may notice they dont exist anymore.

Totally agree with you. I'm afraid that BC will try to make a major deal to out his print on the club. It will probably end up being a disaster. Maybe Harris will keep a leash on Colangelo so that the assets that the Sixers have lost so hard to acquire won't be squandered. However I think that the Colangelos are running this club and Harris has been marginalized.

Other than accumulating draft picks, what value were you impressed by? I keep hearing about the great trade with the magic and the only really good piece in that trade is currently playing for Orlando and playing at a pretty high level. From a player standpoint I'm still waiting to see the performance on the court...

When you start with practically nothing, accumulating draft picks is a pretty good idea, Hinkie didn't add one or two, he added a boatload.
First you have to accumulate assets, then you can worry about "fit" and wheeling and dealing.
But if you aint' got nothing, you got nothing to deal.

What I'm saying is we cant talk about how we trust Hinkie and his judgement when basically he accumulated picks. I'm still waiting to see the results in the players he chose.

Well, to be fair most of his high picks haven't played yet so we can't really discuss that yet. So far Hinkie has proven he's good at finding the 6-10 guys on your roster.

I am a fan of the process and I'm not trying to devalue what Hinkie has done but we've seen no proof that we're going down a successful road just yet. Saric and Embiid if they are playing will be huge. I'd just like to hold off on Hinkie and his skill for assessing value until I actually see the value.

We will never know about Hinkie, because we won't know how he would have deployed the assets he accumulated. The process was short-circuited by impatient owners.
