I'm wondering if we'll see moves when they figure out what Saric is doing...seems depending on the day he's either coming or not coming.

Saric, at every opportunity to speak, has said he's coming over next year. He's really sacrificing a lot of money up front to do so, but he's been pretty firm about it.

Saric may be very uncomfortable as a high profile Balkan Christian in Turkey these days. Not a comfortable environment with Erdogan backing Al Nusra and other elements in Syria, engendering a war with the Kurds, etc.

Korkmaz got drafted where he should, from what I've read, I don't see him developing into a NBA starter, he's going to be more like Stauskas, Korver, etc. outside shooters who struggle defending "2s" b/c they're not great athletes. A good player to bring off the bench.

Luwawu on the other hand sounds like an athletic "2" who needs a lot of coaching, but has the raw talent to develop into a two-way player.

Saric's intentions still seem unclear. I think things are waiting not so much upon whether or not Saric arrives for next season, but whether Embiid enters the season healthy and productive. Not playing summer league, so a ton of uncertainty surrounding his recovery. I assume he'll play in the pre-seaon and we'll know more. He really is the key to what the Sixers do this season.

Barnes will be getting a few max offers, and GS will match unless they sign Durant--at least that's the conventional wisdom.

Allen Crabbe is a great target for us at 2-guard, but he may need to be maxed out, also, and he's been a limited-minutes player, but very efficient. Too much money floating around this offseason...

So Barnes, who's better at PF than SF, brings little to the table.

Now a shooting guard who can play defense, that's worth paying real money to obtain.

Jerryd Bayless agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal Friday with the Sixers, according to a league source. The Associated Press first reported the news. The unrestricted free agent can’t officially sign his contact until July 7.

Nice signing but I am hopeful that we bring in another PG either as competition or to share the position as Bayless is really a combo guard. Maybe with Simmons you don't need a true PG, but I would like to see the ball handling and play developing increased.

I still think this is a potential .500+ team, there is a ton of talent, albeit it very raw. This is going to be fun

And that's why I don't want BC going after the top free agents, the money is absurd, Bayless was overpaid (probably should gotten Ish's deal and Ish, well, . . . ) but it's an overpay that won't haunt the team in three years.

Evan Turner is a solid 6th man, if he's starting for you then you have a thin roster.
He's not a bad player, but he's not nearly as good as T Young, for example.

I predict that Hinkie will be back in the league, trading cap room for draft picks by the summer of 2018.

So you got a problem when you pay Evan Turner $19M a year (even with the new cap he should get paid $10-12M).

You canty avoid the economic reality of basketball and its only going to get worse. That will also cause teams to value their draft picks more.

What we're seeing right now isn't reality, it's a group of GMs trying to keep their jobs by spending their owners' money.
Saw this in the NFL when the cap rose quickly with a new contract, the smart GMs use 3-4 year roster spreadsheets to make sure they're not committing themselves to a fire sale down the road, the desperate ones just spend away and worry about it in a couple years.

The cap will rise again next year, then flatten out indefinitely as the new TV contracts are absorbed.
This means that if you overspend the next two years because you suddenly have all this extra money, the day of reckoning will be the summer of 2018, when teams find out they don't have room to sign their own players without dumping salary - i.e. perfect time to hire Hinkie!

Bods says that Bayless is a great fit because he was one of the best catch and shoot guards out there and since I think the offense is going to run through Simmons he fits great. I know he's weak defensively but the team needed another guard that can shoot a little. I like the deal but I really don't follow the NBA as close as the other leagues.

So... I don't see the problem you see. You've built your team with all vets and are still within the cap. It is not 'if you have a great rookie or second year guy'. The Sixers will have several. So, they might spend the contracts you list and still be significantly under the cap. There isn't a problem with spending to the cap, if that's what it takes. If any team can afford FAs, it's the Sixers. You've taken this strange, obsessive maximize WAR/$ approach with the Phillies and FA, when the Phillies would need a telescope to see far enough to a point where they have lux tax problems. A big advantage of rebuilding and losing big contracts is that you are able to add expensive FA top performers to fill holes and add WAR to an 8=man line-up and 5-man rotation. Saying 'it's just too expensive for what you're getting' is just another way of saying you don't intend to compete any time soon. You can't go all, or primarily, FA vets, but mixing in FAs with the home-grown talent is a proven formula.

The Sixers are in a strange spot that make the salary cap somewhat irrelevant. They are no where near the cap and are probably unable to get to it since too few players are willing to take their money since that aren't competing yet and the most players have other options.

Overpaying is just money and necessary.
