The Sixers have their own issues, the cap goes up to $110M in 2017 then flatlines indefinitely.
A lot of teams are going to have buyers regret in two years, because if you sign 2-3 FAs who are solid starters but not elite, you've tied up maybe $60M for three starters. Now you can use rookies to fill out your roster, but it takes 3-4 years for them to be difference makers in most cases, just when that second contract has to be paid.
My point is merely that GMs are going crazy, throwing too much money on longer term deals to players who are gonig to be liabilities on the cap in 2-3 years (Noah in NY, for example). It's one thing to pay Durant, or Westbrook next year, it's quite another when you're paying $15-20M a year on a 4 year deal to a middle of the road starter. Even with the cap going up, salaries shouldn't be more than 50% above the last few years, but right now $8-10M players are getting $16-18M deals on 4 year contracts (see Mozgov, for example, or Evan Turner).
Sixers face this with Noel, he'll probably cost $75M for 4 years next season to keep, given what was paid this year, if he's not starting (if Embiid is healthy and/or Jah takes a step up), then you can't afford it down the road. In two years you have to resign Embiid, three years Jah. So money will decide who you can afford to sign and who you have to trade.
Now in two years sanity will return as GMs have buyers' regret, the cap flattens out, and teams have to start dumping salary to add players to fill holes. But until then I'd be very wary about anything longer than a 3 year deal other than a max contract for a top ten player.
