I think the French kid comes over this year, the Turk has a $2M buyout, but he's not as developed, so he could use a year or two abroad, but has the potential to be a top flight shooter off the bench.
Next year they'll probably have two lottery picks in a deep PG draft.
Meanwhile, trade options are still there, cap money is there, whether it's a big time deal (Noel, Jah), a smaller deal (Covington, Thompson and a 2nd rd or two in 2017), or a 2-3 year contract for a veteran guard.

So far BC hasn't screwed up.
I don't believe that rumor of a Boston trade, Ainge would be crazy to turn it down if he plans to compete the next two years.

Any info on the interest of the Sixers with any undrafted players? I'd like to see them tryout Anthony Barber from N.C. State. The guy got a first step that reminds me of AI.

I know fans want instant gratification from the draft, but I love what the 76ers did at 24/26 if you view them as future assets.

Neither player is ready now, I would let Luwawu get one more year of seasoning and then bring him over next off-season and then do the same for Korkmaz the following year.

That's the equivalent of adding an extra top-10 caliber player to your team over the next two summers, in addition to the bevy of picks we already have coming.

This is a long game and I want a team that can compete for a decade, not a team that's in a hurry to get to the middle.

I know Hinkie wasn't perfect, but the Sixers have their first real chance in over a decade to build something lasting, largely thanks the moves Hinkie made that so many mocked him for.

Too often when teams say they want to get respectable again, it really turns out to be code for "we want to be mediocre again!" Picking 17-19 every year is like being banished to no man's land.

I will always be thankful to Hinkie for breaking us out of that endless loop the franchise was stuck in. I hope Bryan Colangelo doesn't mess up the stacked deck of assets (including cap space) that Hinkie gave him.

It turns out the Boston trade also included their #16 pick, but the way the draft unfolded, we probably got the guy we were looking for at #24.

The fact that Covington was mentioned suggests BB may not see him as a fit at SF on a regular basis, and he's obviously not playing PF. Grant can probably develop into a solid defender at SF, while Covington has great hands, he's a bit large and stiff for that role.

I think the majority of fans understood and supported what Hinkie did to put us in such a great position - sure there were some fans who scoffed at the process, thought it was overdone and did not believe Hinkie could build a winner. We'll never know now, but certainly the moves have turned this organization around and put us on a vastly better track IF the new leadership have the stones to follow through.

No, its mostly was the local media that wanted instant gratification and actively undermined what Hinkie was doing. Pompey, Cooney, Smallwood, DLynam, Gerardi and Eskin did not seem to understand what had to be done, how long it takes to dig out from the horrible situation the organization was in and how bleak being stuck in NBA purgatory is to a franchise. Their anti-intellectual streak showed clearly as they believed Hinkie was simply an arrogant " stats" guy elitist out to ruin the franchise.

Hinkie did not help by ingratiating himself to the media or handling some of the PR and off the court issues etc. as well as he could have, but I do not think it would have mattered by then. He did not realize the local media already had him in their sights and were looking for any ammo to fire at him.

I see what you're saying and it's probably true to a point, but not entirely. I was texting with a number of friends throughout the draft last night and a bunch of them were on the side of "let's just grab some guards and make a run at the weak East".

I just shake my head when I hear stuff like that.

Progress for this team will be marked by an increase in wins by about 12-15. That would be wonderful and it shows we're headed in the right direction. Young teams take a while to gel, look at Minnesota with Rubio, Towns, Wiggins, LaVine, etc... They have a very talented core, but only won 29 games this year. Something like that next season, along with strong seasons from Simmons, Saric, whichever stays of Noel/Okafor, and Embiid (I care about health more than stats with him) would give us all tremendous optimism for the future.

2017-2018 is when we make a jump. We'll add two more top 7 or so picks in an incredibly strong draft (especially at the PG position), plus potentially Korkmaz and have about 60M to sign FAs next summer. That's when we go from 25-30 wins to 45-50 and become a team to be feared for the foreseeable future.

I'm absolutely thrilled about this team's future and I feel better about it after BC didn't mortgage the future last night.

Of course they understood what Hinkie was doing. The way they build their own brand, gain followers, and get quoted is by trashing Hinkie and goading the fans to resent another year of losing. They ignore the seemingly infinite years of Sixers team mediocrity or worse. The overall record on major league teams in Philly is currently worst in the nation. Fans aren't feeling satisfied. Attendance and following the local teams and accounts of their play in local media are all down. Singing kumbya and pledging patience aren't going to enhance these guys standing as journalists or rabble rousers, or however they see their role.

Need a few more UDFA signings--we seemed to pretty much sit that out. Do 87ers play summer league too?

I'm wondering if we'll see moves when they figure out what Saric is doing...seems depending on the day he's either coming or not coming.
