This team isn't too long for second place. facing a pitcher that tops out at 89 and doing nothing. the phils offense is now out of the game. the blue jays really smack the ball. impressive.

Reminds me of when the '07 or '08 team used to lose to somebody bad, like the Astros. And the Blue Jays aren't that bad. But it's been a while since this team just had a bad game, pitching and hitting both.

I felt the odds were greater that Hernandez could at least tie the game up when he was batting than Hoskins would when he got to the plate following the walk to Hernandez. A very disappoint start and finish to the game. The 7 innings in between mostly favored the Phillies for what its worth.

It's telling that Gibbons had the Jays pitch around Hernandez to get to Hoskins. The book is out that he'should an easy out now. I hate to say the Domonic Brown comparisons are on the money but Hoskins also completely lacks the ability to make adjustments.

Didn’t Hoskins double in a run a couple innings earlier? Being rung up by Joe West on a ball has happened to a lot of hitters over the decades.

Right, that inning possibly doesn't happen if Hoskins hadn't contributed earlier. He is a long way from being sent down but a day off or line-up move seems in order. He adjusted to start the current season (after finishing poorly last season) and he needs to adjust again.

It was a close pitch, and he had obviously been told not to be too aggressive, that guy was out of the strike zone a bunch. Seemed like he was a few inches away from tying another game with a passed ball too. Herrera's AB was worse, really.

Also seems that with the off days and rainouts if taking a day off would fix you Rhys would be fixed alr already.

Hoskins has a very good eye, he's just not at the point where he gets the call, the umpire blew it.

Hoskins is making adjustments, he hit another one just foul down the RF line, pitchers have been pounding him inside with FBs and outside with breaking stuff, he's learning to keep his hands back and take that ball to RF - once he figures it out, look for multiple xBH games where he deposits a few into the RF corner or the stands, then turns on an inside FB for a long, long HR.

It's obvious they're stressing that with the power hitters, Alfaro and Franco have hit more balls to the opposite field than I think they had all last season.

Well of course it's a bit of an overstated "fix," especially when they claim there is nothing Hoskins specifically needs to fix - no extra video or batting cage work he isn't already doing. But having your manager say "I'm giving you a couple of days off to recharge and refocus" is still different from a rainout or off-day. Conversely, "he needs to play as much as possible and get past this" is also a valid strategy.

yes, in the article at today's philly.com kapler leaned to robbie thompson and said if Rhys gets up we're going to win the game. glad he's not making my investment strategy. looks like they are all in on hoskins. i guess so, since quinnie went down there isn't any one left.
