Phils deal RHP Pat Neshek to the Rockies for 3 prospects.

SS Jose Gomez (ranked 21 in MLB.com top 30 Rockies prospects)
RHP J.D. Hammer (unranked)
RHP Alejandro Requena (unranked)

Gomez and Requena are 20 year olds playing at Asheville (low-A)
Hammer is 23 and pitching in relief at Lancaster (high-A)

Gomez appears to be on the DL, he last played 7/19

Dreck. All were not listed in their Fangraphs top prospects. Their stats are good, and all seem to have markedly improved this year off of average at best previous careers.

OK...Gomez spent three years in the rookie ball and has a very low walk rate, and little power. Seems limited to 2B (and 1B, which is a position he can't play without a much bigger bat). Seems a funny get for an organization that allegedly believes in strike-zone control. I like him better if they see him as a 3B or utility IF.

Requena also spent three years in rookie ball and his last two have been pretty bad. His control this year has been off-the-charts good. Gets his share of Ground Balls, but has been very lucky on line drives this season. I think he's the weakest of the acquisitions.

JD Hammer (great name) is a hard-throwing lottery ticket who has no idea where the strike zone is even after 3 years in baseball.

Honestly, this is just a bunch of dreck IMHO. I'd really be surprised if any of these players is successful above AA ball. And all of them only have 1 year of non-40 man control left.

I'll say that I don't think this is a good trade as of now. 50 cents on the dollar for Neshek. You can't get organizational filler for a guy who is better than 2 other guys who have already been traded for decent prospects. You should get HIGHER quality prospects when you take guys below AA.

Somewhat disappointing. Though on the surface I wonder if I like Requena more than the other two even if he looks a little disappointing on the surface. Wild card factor is that Asheville is a really good offensive park. This makes Lopez less impressive and Requena more. Does not seem much of a hard thrower though so it could always be good control against young hitters. #27 in this ranking:

Lopez at 2B really needs some power to be seen as a decent prospect. Probably a little like Valentin in his projection but younger. We do seem to have some depth in the middle infield so not sure where he goes. Might play some 3B at Lakewood and sneak some middle infield time in when Brito or Gamboa are rested. He is better than Rivas most likely.

Hammer was 31st on that midseason list. 24th round pick as a college senior so strikeouts could be more experience rather than mph.

Glad a deal was made and nobody needs to be protected. Like what Miami got for Phielps much more though. Did Klentak wait too long?

Well at least there is s deal in place. Neshek has been amazing for the Phillies this season but he had to be traded now. He says he likes Philadelphia, so who knows, maybe he signs here in the off season.

I really don't know if it is a good return or not. Clearly, the Phillies get some players who are doing fine in the lower minors. They don't have to be added to the 40 man roster now, so that is good. The Phillies add 3 more players to the organization. We will see how they do next season.

I wish Neshek and his family the very best as they head to Colorado.

Geez, Klentak waited a week, fiellded numerous offers.
Face it, Neshek is a 36 old 7th inning RP who can't pitch back to back games.

It's the eternal question, if you don't think it's a good package does that mean Klentak didn't get the best deal or do the Phillies have a different evaluation of the players? It's also possible they wanted three guys more than one better guy and one worse guy?

Has there really been another trade that's similar to Neshek - a 7th (not 8th) inning guy who can't pitch more than one inning and will be a free agent?

Given the Rays and Sox and even the Cubs were still out there I'd say he may not have waited long enough (or he took the best deal he was gonna get).

We probably got about 95 percent of what I was expecting back. Given our depth, I would have preferred that value in one guy rather than 3.
