Seemingly little known fact...a LHV win or Rochester loss and the Iron Pigs make the playoffs. Who knew? And the reason Crawford will suit up with the Pigs and not the Phillies today. And rightly so.

I see those videos on Gamboa and I see someone who drifts forward (Ichiro-like, but without his skill) and robs himself of the ability to drive the ball consistently. Here's BP's scouting report:

Gamboa is an athlete that has room to improve his hit tool considerably throughout the minors given his loose swing and flashes of bat control at just 19 years old. He struggles with velocity, but will improve in that area as he matures into his frame. I’m not as confident in his ability to hit for power because of his more linear swing. But he has enough fielding chops to stick at short. He has the potential to be a second-division starter, even though there is moderate risk because of the amount of projection in his profile right now.

As things currently stand, what about Eflin and Lively? I mean, even if there's only one new veteran SP in the majors instead of two that would be Nola, Eickhoff, Velasquez, new guy, Pivetta.

Someone's definitely going. Hopefully for a better return than Asher (though, did that trade even get completed yet?)

nyc--I think you're close. Some of this will take care of itself in terms of health and trades this offseason.

Ultimately I think Seranthony and Edgar Garcia are bullpen guys. Probably one of the lefties too--maybe Suarez.

Couple of interesting aspects to the LHV victory today. One, they just swept a 4 game series against Scranton, arguably the best team in the IL. This in itself is quite impressive and certainly one of the reasons that almost no one was focusing on the Pigs playoff chances, it appeared they had none.

And two, Henderson Alvarez with a very impressive start [3rd straight] and might be a solid candidate to get a few starts this September in Philadelphia, though that would entail getting him on the 40 man roster.

And truth be told, I am conflicted on the call up of Crawford after the game today, and probably will be for awhile. On one hand, it will be fun to see him in a Phillie uniform and hopefully this is the start of a long and successful career for a much ballyhooed and talented player.

On the other hand, I feel for LHV, which might have felt that they were peaking at the right time and could just win the IL playoffs. Afterall, they just beat the supposed best team 4 games straight, are on a 6 game winning streak, and have finally righted their ship after so many call ups caused the ship to take on water.

That said, my guess is that the Phils felt it was important that LHV get every opportunity to MAKE the playoffs, but that it simply is not that important whether or not they WIN them.
