The initial comment on McKee was a jest. āBoatload of picksā is clearly hyperbole.
Right now, the consensus of beat writers is that they wouldnāt trade McKee for a second, but they would consider it for a first.
McKee went against the Bengalsā defense playing 9 starters/rotation players. Both teams played a vanilla scheme. McKee handled that situation remarkably well. He has also looked good in his limited reps vs NFL teams in-season last year and in pre-season last year. For many NFL teams that have a sub-par QB, McKee may be a better option than a drafted QB next year, even a first-rounder. If that is true. those teams should consider trading. Based on two yearsā worth of evidence, including last night.
McKee made two elite throws, the TD to Cooper, and the underneath route, also to Cooper, on 4th down. He made several throws that analytics services rated as very good, too, the back shoulder to Wilson down the left sideline, and the streak route, again to Wilson, down the right sideline over the CB. WE, and teams, have to evaluate those throws to get an idea of how good McKee might be. Itās all the evidence we have right now. And if you watched, he didnāt just throw to wide open receivers.
NFL teams aināt that smart, sometimes they miss good QBs...both McKee and Brady were drafted in the 6th round. Purdy was drafted last overall. Brady had to sit behind Drew Bledsoe, and only got to start because Bledsoe got hurt. Maybe the Saints will trade for McKee and heāll be a good starter. Who knows? But right now the only real evidence supports him being more than competent.
You seem intent on saying anyone who believes McKee might be good is a dope. Why?
