Funny story about Jane Goodall. Gary Larson published the below edition of The Far Side when Ms. Goodall was traveling outside of the country. The Jane Goodall Institute immediately demanded an apology and threatened to sue. Jane Goodall arrived home and essentially told them to relax and that she thought it was hysterical. She later met Mr. Larsen and wrote a forward to his next book. In a rare act, he signed and gave her the original of the comic.

This one hurts a bit, reminder that I'm gettin' old...although there hasn't been new music from the Blues for several years. And much as I love their music, Lodge was just a singer in a rock and roll band.

Time for a listening marathon.

Ouch. I've been a Moodies fan since high school when a girl that I "worshipped from afar" was a Moodies fan. So of course I had to check them out. They've been a constant musical companion for me over the last 50 years and I've come to appreciate John Lodge's songwriting and bass playing even more as my tastes have matured. "Emily's Song" was one of the "lullabies" that I would sing to my baby granddaughter to get her to sleep. Hard to believe that Justin Hayward is the only remaining one of the core 5 still alive.

Ouch. I've been a Moodies fan since high school when a girl that I "worshipped from afar" was a Moodies fan. So of course I had to check them out.

This is me, more or less. I was turned on to the Moody Blues by a girl...well, not one I worshipped from afar, but a good friend who was in our small group, and who tended to sit in the seat next to me (next row over, but we were always seated alphabetically, so we tended to wind up next to each other). She was Laura to my Jim in The Glass Menagerie. Then when Seventh Sojourn came out, I was done. I have all the regular albums (on CD, but now stored electronically), as well as Time Traveller, and... well, used to have the Legend of a Band history on VHS. When I saw the news, I put Sojourn on this afternoon, just to listen again.

John Lodge was touring this summer, as was Justin Hayward (whom I saw in August). I think Hayward and Mike Pinder are the last two.

Artist Tony Fitzpatrick, whose work you may know if you're a fan of Steve Earle. Or you saw him act in Married to the Mob or the excellent TV show Patriot. A White Sox fan actually.

Good keyboardist, but not a replacement for Mike Pinder's songwriting. Much as I love the Hayward/Lodge repertoire, Pinder's songs added a different feel, an additional layer, to the Moodies' overall experience.
