Yeah if Hellickson takes the QO that's actually a pretty good outcome, since the Phillies can afford it and then some. Especially because, if he does it again, you can still trade him (and it he's doing it again, he'll be worth more).
A bird in the hand (high prospect + a throw-in) should be worth more than one in the bush (QO pick) but clearly Klentak likes the idea of being able to choose that pick (and allocate money to him).
I also think, as the game values youth more and more and the wild card (and advancing past the play-in) becomes more of a crapshoot, teams are less likely to go all-in on deadline acquisitions that aren't perceived to be elite.
