If we get Suarez, that's the most likely result because Bohm would be the odd man out (likely traded as part of the deal), and the outfield can still be remedied by inserting Crawford in CF, which is the result I would want to see anyway.

Looks like things are heating up for Duran. 100+, 2.00 ERA (2.50 career), can close (90% save pct last couple of years), 2 more years of control.

Four moves that make LF, 3B and 1B worse while also leaving Marsh where he's worse just isn't necessary.

I would counter that only LF is a plus defensively now, out of the 3 you mentioned, so is it that much of a risk???? You can't convince me that 3B and 1B would get significantly worse defensively with any move that was suggested, and we've fielded the best teams in our history with guys like Luzinski and Burrell in LF. LF defense JUST DOESN'T MATTER THAT MUCH. Look around at the LFs in the league.

Defense up the middle does. Exponentially more so.

3B and 1B would get significantly worse. Bohm is better than Suarez [which is hilarious] and Harper is way better than Bohm. And Bohm's bat isn't big enough to truly want him at 1B. Schwarber's, obviously, is big enough for LF and any struggles.

But it just doesn't matter that much. If they get Suarez Bohm is even less useful than Taijuan Walker. He's also not likely to take especially well to reduced playing time or pinch-hitting, and would probably not hit well in either role. I'd sooner trade him for peanuts than reshuffle 1/3 of the roster. If he's not actually going to be ready to play until September anyway I guess that makes it easier to just bury him though [and harder to trade him].

Well, that's a nonstarter IMO. I don't care how he's looked in the last few weeks. This is his first season back after TJS. Next year is going to look a lot different. Painter has never had command issues (before this year), and that takes a lot of risk out of him for me.

Even if the report is right it doesn't mean that's what will happen. Or that the Twins aren't bluffing. But it's also possible the Phillies simply can't outbid the Dodgers without Painter or multiple other top prospects, given Duran's status. I certainly see the appeal of the extra years of control but I then again I think I'd rather risk $40,000,000 on three years of a free agent reliever who might suck for half the contract than lose three prospects for one. Estevez, a rental, already cost two slightly lesser guys.

Man, Mets way overpaid for Tyler Rogers.

If that’s the price for relievers then I’m fine just passing on the market and relying on Robertson, Luzardo, and maybe Painter or Abel in the pen in the postseason.

Given the variance in reliever performance, no way would I overpay for a reliever, even someone like Duran

Marsh already is a platoon player. That's a creative solution, platooning him with another LHB! But still utterly unnecessary to get that clever or move Harper. Kemp, who has a .967 OPS against LHP, would still be fine as the platoon partner in LF [whether with Marsh, Crawford or Kepler]. Bohm's OPS against LHP this year is 200 points lower.

Since both Taylor and Tyler Rogers were traded today, could they parent trap and report to the wrong teams?

Not a huge overpay for Rogers, you are just overvaluing those Mets prospects. For those that watch the system those are arrow down guys more in the 11-20 range plus a MLB reliever who is probably not someone you want in the postseason. It isn't nothing, but they are names more than big prospects.

I’m suggesting platooning Marsh with Bohm. Not sure where you’re getting the idea that I’m suggesting we platoon him with a lefty.

And Bohm has pretty massive career platoon splits with a career .854 OPS vs lefties.

If we get something for him, I’d also be fine trading him and continuing a Marsh/Kemp platoon.

Just laying out one possibility for how you handle the lineup if you trade for Suarez.

Fair enough! Mets twitter seems to be melting down over what they consider a massive overpay. I guess I shouldn’t trust them to have an accurate assessment of their own prospects!
