If they are a .500 team they are going to add. As CD might say, they just are. I might not agree with it but that is where they are. And for Middleton to admit DD is a stiff in just his second season, that's not gonna happen either.
Ideally, their actual W-L catches up with X W-L and they're actually in it. Realistically, it's not yet clear if they are even truly a .450 team. They could still play .333 ball for the next three weeks.
As for trading away prospects, I don't think any of the 2020 or 2021 moves are going to truly haunt us, and I doubt they'd trade anyone from higher up rankings this year either.
Much also depends on certain players at the major league level. If Moniak were to actually put it together then not only do we not need a CF but they could probably trade one of the three younger ones. If he doesn't, he's a tradable piece himself, but only a throw-in. There's also catching depth that is engulfed in question marks. If JT struggles then just how many more years is O'Hoppe truly blocked? He's untouchable anyway, but with the way he's playing and how nice Stubbs looks maybe Sands is another throw-in, or a team takes Marchan while on IL.
This all has to play out for one more year, including some results from the new development guy and, probably, Dombrowski's only managerial hire. But if neither situation looks any different after next season do you let him finish out his contract/start the rebuild, or move on?
Trading Rhys seems inevitable too. And of course they'll have $ to spend w/o Didi and Segura.
