Honestly, I don't understand those who feel it won't be a terrible thing if the Phils don't move some of their tradeable assets at the deadline. Of course it will because Klentak has supposedly been preparing for this period since he signed/traded for the likes of Nava, Kendricks, Buchholz, Neshek, Benoit and Hellickson. This really was the only reason he brought them onboard in the first place. Not to turn the Phils into contenders but to be place holders for a time and then moved at the July deadline for lottery pieces.
This is not rocket science here, there are 29 other potential trade partners and one would hope/expect that Klentak has been talking to most of them for quite some time to know what they want from the Phillies and want they can be prepared to move in order to get those pieces.
Probably none of the above named players will be back with the Phils next year and truth be told, probably none of them really want to be back. Nothing against the Phillies personally but Stanton, in a moment of candor yesterday, told the world what teams think of the Phillies, "the worst team in baseball."
It is incumbent that Klentak not allow those guys walk away as free agents and get nothing in return. He has known this since he signed them and should have been preparing for this since Spring Training.
Meh will not suffice for me, or I suspect, most of Phillie Nation.
