andyb...of course you are correct. We were having the same discussions at this time last year but the names were different, with Hellickson being the main one. In fact, IIRC, many of us felt that Hellickson was the best starting pitcher on the market and would certainly bring back some bounty.
Instead, the Phils did nothing at the deadline, absolutely nothing. That was a failure, there is no other words we can use. And now, we see teams making deals for relievers for the past week and we can make the case that once again Klentak had the best reliever on the market and yet, no deals to this point.
One more thing worth noting. Klentak made it clear with his signings and deals in the off season, Neshek, Kendricks, Buchholtz, Benoit and 1-2 others, that he brought these guys on board with the express purpose of moving them by the trade deadline. So far, he has made no deals.
He will be judged accordingly because he asked to be when he brought these guys on board.
