He was the league MVP in 2014 (really 2nd best player statistically in the league that year, but the other was American Keith Langford). He did win something called the All Europe Player of the year the last two years, but last years stats (11 ppg, 5 apg, 43.8% shooting) make me wonder what the qualifications are for that award.
He can pass, and he certain has court presence and appears to be knowledgeable of the game, but honestly I think he is a better option as a coach. What I saw in the two games is a guy who isn't going to be able to take his game to the NBA easily. He won't be able to defend, his passing isn't crisp, everything is floated and will get deflected or picked off in the NBA, it looks good against lesser opponents but will not translate to the next level.
Like I said earlier the only way he was creating separation was by pushing off, it isn't getting called in the international game, and maybe he can be taught not to extend his arm like he is, but at the moment he is going to get called for that move. Just my opinion, but really I don't see it as very close.
