any ideas where he slots in? I'm guessing 4th line center.

We have Couts, Zegras and Cates at C.

None of these guys are studs and neither is Dvorak. He is depth and protection against injury and non performance by Zegras or even Couts. He is a Tocchet guy so it could also be a way to get players to understand Tocchet's systems from the C position.

Dvorak is a pure C from what I know and a good faceoff guy like Couts.

I'd say they start with:

1C - Couts
2C - Zegras
3C - Dvorak
4C - Cates

If Zegras and/or Couts cannot perform at C, that would change the mix and could give Jett Luchanko a chance to play.

It will be a very fluid position during the season IMO as they test the options and evaluate who are the best fits.

yeah seems like a semi-pricey replacement for Poehling but he's probably better than Cates

Flyers only had 9 NHL forwards under contract.
Dvorak makes 10.
They'll probably add a couple more 4th line guys making $1.25M or less (who can be buried in LHV at no cap hit).

Martone, Jett, a bunch of LHV forwards will compete for jobs in camp, but you don't want to be forced to rush young players. Let them beat out marginal veterans to win jobs.

Juulsen is AHL plus, same as another forward they signed, guys who add veteran depth in the AHL and have some NHL experience and can fill in for a few games.

Once Cates got put with Brink and Foerster, he put up 15-16 31 in 62 games at ES. That's 2C production.

1. Then they shouldn't have had their online lackeys leaking they were getting him 2 weeks ago.
2. The Flyers haven't won a cup since Ford was President, it's ok to criticize them.
3. The organization is run with the seriousness of most college fraternities. The funniest line I read when Ed Van Impe died was that it was a shame as he was in consideration for the head coaching job.
4. The draft was OK. I'd trade it for the Islanders haul tomorrow. They started with 6 picks in the first 2 rounds....if you are not getting an "A" on that kind of starting point you should be embarrassed.
5. They used all of their cap room on three mediocrities and then will complain about a lack of cap room.
6. They haven't drafted a goalie in the last 2 drafts.
7. They constantly act like they are smarter than everyone else without much to support that.

Concerned Vladar has never started more than 30 games in a season. Looks to me like Ersson is still #1, but Vladar is a better second option that Kolosov and Fedotov and it could end up being a true tandem in goal.

I do not think this is good enough for the playoff team, but we'll see.

not disagreeing with anything you have said here, and the van impe line is great, however I didn't have big expectations this year as they are still transitioning. I like the bridge signings.

5 - As far as cap space goes, they get Ryan Ellis room as soon as the season starts (6.25M) and he is moved to LTIR & they only have 2 more seasons remaining on that mistake. Atkinson, Hayes & Laughton money (6.7M) comes off the books after this season as well. Add 5.4M for Dvorak and there's not even enough cap space to sign McDavid next summer lol. Wonder if they will pay someone to take Ellis's contract next summer.

6 - maybe they have a lot of confidence in the two guys they took 3 years ago, although I was surprised that they didn't take a goalie this weekend I assumed its because they went off the board earlier than usual.
