I'm actually not sure if they will match or not. I think the consensus is that they will? If so, then Anaheim is going to have an issue as their projected value of Leo will be well below the Flyers offer. If they accept, then a lot of players will have a new number.

I think most of this has been discussed here but this contract doesn't really kill the Flyers going forward...they would need to shed some salary which probably means taking less in trade for those players than we would have imagined.

It's not like Briere woke up on July 3 and decided to do this. It's a path they'd considered going back to Kaprizov, and they certainly knew they were going to do it even as they extended Vladar and Foerster and added Acciari/retained salary on Hathaway. So they also know exactly what they might have to do (and are willing to do) if the deal happens.

Apparently there was an offer sheet on Minytyukov but he didn't sign it.

I'm sure Briere has a plan...one way or the other.

I'm all for this move...he fills a gigantic hole in the flyers roster and creates flexibility for the team in terms of moving players.

It's an interesting situation for the ducks since this move certainly cements Carlsson as the franchise face for the foreseeable future...and also means Gauthier will sap the rest of their cap.

If Briere has a good idea how Anaheim will react, then I could maybe get on the 4D argument, but there needs to be a move behind it for that to be true.

They should be so lucky. Even given his bounce-back and defense/face-off prowess Couts would be very hard to trade, and Dvorak has a full no-trade clause for two seasons. Cates is probably who gets moved if they really wanted to subtract a center and some $.

But more likely the BSH article is right, you take very little to unload Risto and/or move Tippett for a still-decent return.

There's no masterful chess playing here, of two, three or four dimensions. More like checkers. The Flyers want the player. They think he's worth the overpay and the ripple effect, in both the short-term and the long-term. That's it. And if they don't get him they don't have to do anything in reaction to it, just proceed with what they were already doing (including Giroux, and/or considering lesser centers if available).

Funny reality check in the Athletic's 2027 early draft preview. They mocked it based on the current futures odds, which have the Flyers in the lottery/picking 13th (that's how it is on Tankathon too).

Counterpoint... Couts was the best player in the playoffs and I'm not sure it was particularly close.

Yeah...the math on this is fairly simple...they either hit a HR and get their 1C this way or they go back to looking for other pieces to fall in to place and try again next year.

That is funny! they have Toronto finishing 19th and the pick going to Boston.

I don't disagree, but that doesn't change how he played earlier in the season, the date of birth on his driver's license, the injury history and the four remaining years at 7.75 million AAV. You keep him because of what he showed in the playoffs and the intangibles, because those things aren't worth losing for what would either be a low return or a deal with salary retention. But you're still running the risk of getting nothing for your money by 2028.

I get it. I still give Couts the same leeway that I gave G.... you can ask for almost anything you want. G wanted to leave, which is fine. I would never trade Couts unless he wanted to be traded.

Well you just predicted either he or Dvorak will be moved if Carlsson is a Flyer, and I don't think either is likely. Certainly not this year.

If Giroux does come back does he get a letter?

I can't see them not keeping Drysdale, so it's likely that Z and Couts/Dvo are gone. What I would do means nothing.

I think you are making up bigger cap problems and more fractious contract negotiations than actually exist. Not to mention none of this is probably happening!

I think people are downplaying the cap problems. Yes, it might not exist, but it certainly gives Anaheim some problems if they do match.

... and gives the Flyers issues if they don't.

When you look at the total package, Kaprisov’s deal is the one that changed the market.
Actually Carlsson’s deal may prove to be better value than Kaprisov’s. Carlsson is on the rise of his career while Kaprisov is on the back side of his. Of course Carlsson’s deal is revolutionary since it’s an offer sheet to an RFA.
