Yes. They might want players but not an old, almost-free agent injury risk player who make too much money. It's on the Flyers to unload Risto (and probably retain half his salary) for a lesser (but good) player, or get assets for him they can use later.

Colleagues Aaron Portzline and Shayna Goldman poured some cold water on that possibility on Sunday, suggesting that because the Blue Jackets prefer players that would help them right away, the Flyers might not have enough to get into the conversation. The Blue Jackets may not be interested in Matvei Michkov, and itâs difficult to see the Flyers parting with Tyson Foerster, who looks well on his way to becoming one of the better two-way forwards in the league (although for a guy like Werenski, he may not be untouchable). Further, if Werenski wants to win now, itâs tough to ascertain whether he believes the Flyers are in position to do that over the course of the next two seasons, which is how long heâs signed for.

The Blue Jackets would almost certainly ask for young forwards Porter Martone or Tyson Foerster in return, who Kevin Kurz thinks are untouchable. But theyâd also need a defenseman in return. Not Rasmus Ristolainen, and Travis Sanheim doesnât really move the needle, either.
