Watched some of the game, Velasquez has a way to go up the learning curve, he's still struggling with command and with his changeup.
He throws some beautiful pitches, then lets 95-96 MPH fastballs drift over the middle of the plate with bad results against good hitters (Sanchez).
Which goes to show you why velocity is overrated, he throws much harder than Nola and Eickhoff, but right now isn't nearly as good of a pitcher.
He really needs to master that changeup and his breaking ball, when he can set up his fastball throwing a breaking ball for a strike, then finish a hitter off with a changeup, they won't be able to sit on his heat and it'll be more effective.
Right now his changeup seems to be erratic, saw one at 85 with a nice tail, another at 90 which is too small a separation (want 10+ MPH difference).
And he can't consistently hit spots with his fastball.
Altherr had a nice line drive double to the opposite field, he's going to make it hard to sit him.
Valentin also had a nice line drive double, he's quietly making a case to watch him at Lehigh.
