Not sure I have read a more disingenuous set of quotes than this:
âI definitely wouldnât characterize it as a cost-cutting move,â Zimmerman said. âI think the backdrop does have to start with the changes in the business. The last two years have probably been the most challenging, certainly in managing local media rights. For most of that time, our partner was in bankruptcy.
âAre there some costs saved by not having two separate productions? Sure. But when you look at the scope of our business, what weâre investing in, how weâre investing, itâs just not the driver ⌠This move wouldnât be happening unless it was part of a commitment to believe that we can be better. Our goal is to have the best broadcast in the league.â
I am sure it will seem like the best broadcast in the league when the radio announcers are deciding whether to talk about an instant replay on the air. Either the TV or radio listeners will be confused. It is actually the main reason I almost never put the radio announcers on the MLB app. It just does not work cleanly even if the announcers are a bit better. Note that personal decision might vary depending on whether we have Kruk or Ben Davis.
