At the same time, he pretty much earned all five of those losses (all on the road, with an ERA close to 6.00). I don't think it is keeping him from winning the CY - being on the same team as Wheeler and Skenes already having a major award more of a factor. Of course he was also 10-10. Skenes beats Sanchez on WHIP and ERA (by a lot in that case), just behind him for WAR.

I remember prior to the 1986 season, the Inquirer had its annual preseason write-up and the beat writer--I can't remember whether it was Peter Pasquarelli or Jayson Stark--when projecting the award winners, instead of NL Cy Young Award, he tongue in cheek had the NL Dwight Gooden Award when Gooden was coming off a dominating rookie season in 1984 and a 1985 season in which he won the NL pitching triple crown at the age of just 20 and the columnist wrote something along the lines of "Well, ordinarily we would have the NL Cy Young Award but it looks like Dwight Gooden has that one retired for the foreseeable future" and projected other pitchers who might ordinarily be worthy of the award. No, Gooden did not win another Cy Young again. But, that's where we seem to be right now with both the NL Cy Young and MVP with Skenes and Ohtani having both of those retired for the foreseeable future.

Zolecki has all the SPs on the NLDS roster but Trivino over Mayza, presumably given the all-lefty rotation.

Still sees Ranger as Game 2 and Luzardo Game 3 with a chance of Nola, though I wonder if Nola wouldn't get Game 2 (presumably against Reds not LA) if he did get the nod. Either way, a piggyback situation seems plausible.

I wonder if this means the Phillies will play around 4pm or the prime slot, so they can really clear out the complex (Temple also plays at 1pm). Mariners would probably have the late game.

They have not set the times yet. Mariners will be the late game. Blue Jays will play NY or Boston so that could be the prime time game though if we get Philly-LA I bet that is the 6 or 7 PM game and the Blue Jays start at 3 or 4.

A little surprised they are not just moving the day of the hockey game as it is unlikely to have many fans that care.

Flyers are their own world. They drew 14,000 (officially) on Saturday. That's probably more home fans than Temple had for their last game against Oklahoma (25,000 total). It's the last preseason game so neither team probably wants to change their schedule of off-days and practice heading into Thursday. I think it's more about the crowd than avoiding direct conflict.

I would think it has to be the 6 or 7pm game even if it's the Reds. A day game might even be worth more viewers (as far as having the AL East). Not sure who has college football vs baseball when.

Oh no doubt, though they also didn't play many. But mediocrity has also never stopped 15,000 people from regularly coming to Flyers games (until it very briefly did which is how we finally got to this rebuild). I asssume it will be more like 10,000 for this one.

More than a little truth to that! Though the best joke remains when the owner of the LA Kings (Jack Kent Cooke) said they told him there were a ton of Canadians in Southern California - but they didn't tell him those were all the people who left Canada because they hated hockey.

Both teams need to play and move on. Have to meet roster deadlines, and don't want to give up a day of practice once the final lineups are set to practice (build chemistry) before the season starts a week later.

They have had Phillies games opposite concerts and far more crowded Lincoln Financial events (like soccer) on the same night in the past. They'll be fine.

I thought part of the deal with Southy Philly residents near the Sports Complex when the two new stadiums were built was that there wouldn't be simultaneous events at LFF and CBP. Has that expired?

I do recall in both 2008 and 2009, the Phillies hosted Game 4 of the WS later in the day after the Eagles had home games that afternoon. Plenty of people probably had very long pregame or very long postgame tailgates those days! On one of those occasions, Fox Sports had Joe Buck do the Eagles-Giants game before doing Game 4 later that evening.

If that is true it might have only been for the Eagles and Phillies, or with exceptions for special events (which playoffs and FIFA both would be). There are often events at both the arena and one stadium, and Temple football only brings an arena-sized crowd. But in this case it won't be simultaneous (no way Phillies are going to play at 1, and probably not 4 either).

There was definitely baseball, soccer and a concert one time this season, I remember the transit and parking advisories.

My first time at CBP in 2004 was before an April Flyers playoff game. Nothing at stadium tho.

Ah here's the other one I remember, no arena event, but big training camp crowd for Eagles opposite Chris Brown. Parking overlap, but the gates for concert opened after the football event was over.

Even when it was just the Vet and the Spectrum, there could be issues. I remember in 1989, my brother and I tried going to Steve Carlton Night but we ended up missing the #32 retirement ceremony and the first couple of batters in the top of the first because of a Doobie Brothers concert at the Spectrum at around the same time. After the game, we went back to his place and watched the replay of the ceremony on Prism.

Overlaps will happen when you have multiple venues in one place. They can physically handle the crowds and transportation. They just want to avoid it as much as possible around special events which have extra media and potentially tailgating. Guessing they could not change the day of the hockey but wanted it as far away as possible (even if MLB has not decided on the 3/4 start vs 6/7 PM).
