Phillies Acquire 1B Justin Bour from Marlins

We "traded" DFA'd Jake Thompson to the Brewers for cash. I'm putting this under the Bour trade thread because Thompson was DFA'd to make room for Bour on the 40 man roster.

Still somewhat surprised it was Thompson over Rios, Leiter or Walding. While under this thread - anyone else wanting to see Bour get some starts and Santana some bench time these last couple of weeks in August?

I agree about Leiter, but he may just have more utility than Thompson at this point. Rios is still a very promising young arm.

Bour will get his looks against righties, and presumably in the doubleheader tomorrow. Then the Toronto series. I'm sure he would have started against the Padres had he truly been available for more than one game.

Thompson is 24, his velocity isn't coming back, and his command hasn't improved.
I think it's a toss up between him and Leiter, and Rios has more upside, as does Anderson in that role.
