His 2018 OPS is just a tiny bit better than Santana's. .759 vs .758, so people will be saying he should play over Santana

Wow. Thats a strange one. It does strengthen the bench though, and I guess it weakens the Marlins significantly.
Miami has 10 remaining game vs the Phillies,7 vs the Braves and 6 vs the Nationals. Its a very marginal benefit but its a benefit none the less.

Bour is still under control for 2 more years after this. That being said, given Santana's contract and the fact that we had to non-tender Tommy Joseph, Bour looks like a non-tender candidate to me.

We have the money to tender Bour if we want, or give him a 2-3 year deal, then flip him with retained money, or move Santana.

Mills was going to be a tough 40 man decision so getting rid of him makes sense.

Yeah, I can't see money being the decision maker for the Phillies, but if they decided Mills wasn't going to be protected and he was a likely player to be claimed, then it's a fig leaf for the Marlins.

Bour has a career OPS of .858 vs right handers and .648 vs left handers. Santana has no split (.802 and .812).
Bour has a 2018 OPS of .835 vs RHP and .590 vs LHP (including that one HR on opening day vs Adam Morgan).
Santana has a 2018 OPS of .749 vs RHP and .778 vs LHP.

Why would Miami give him up for so little? Hes not a superstar but hes a good firstbaseman. Hes not expensive. Unless they have a prospect ready to take his place?

Someone mentioned hes a Braves killer:
OPS of 1.227 vs Braves this year.
Leave him on the bench against the Mets and Nats though.
OPS of .596 vs Mets. OPS of 530 vs Washington.

He was pretty good without being spectacular against the Phillies. .820

It was repeatedly said they wanted a lefty bench bat. He had a very good year last year and he gets on base.He probably has off-season trade value if they don't want to keep a $5 million bench piece.
