As only Orel H back in '88 pulled off the no runs in a calendar month (with the required minimums), Sanchez has got a legitimate claim. Not being scored upon is a form of dominance.

Andy & Zamboni...I guess you're right about the starters only gong 1 IP. I can remember when I was younger when they often wet 2 or even 3. And, yes, probably unlikely that all of them are there and that Ohtani pitches. Fun to speculate about the NL having 6 innings covered, though.

The NL has won 2 out of 3 lately and now is dominating the season series (after the AL had a decade of dominance before that). We might be entering an era of NL dominance though obviously the exhibition nature will factor in the results likely being more random.

Safe to say that Sanchez and hopefully Wheeler will be there with the game in Philly. Schwarber and Harper need a little more work to get there though Schwarber will almost certainly be in the Home Run Derby. This is probably not the Phillies team that will deserve a half dozen players. I guess Duran could make it too out of the bullpen.

I think Duran and Schwarber would be locks as of now, but there is time to go...

Harper has said he'll do the Derby if he makes the team. I imagine there would be a lot of pressure on Schwarber to be in it at CBP but I don't know if we can assume he'll do it if he's not on the team. It's an honor, and you get bonus money, but he might just want to go back to Ohio.

Of course, Manfred's office also gets a big say in the reserves so Schwarber will probably make it. And as we saw last year there's always replacement opportunities too

I don't think you need to be on the team to be in the Derby. Certainly if there is such a rule it has been waived in the past. Heck the NBA puts a G-League guy in the slam dunk contest every year. And "going home" to Ohio is less convenient than staying home in Philly so it is almost certain Schwarber will be there.

You absolutely don't need to be on the team to be in the Derby but you also don't have to show up if you're not on the team. These guys also travel a lot farther than Ohio during the break (some go back to the DR or Florida. Philllies players are kind of screwed though because they have that game on the 16th instead of the 17th).

You keep missing the point that a bunch of Phillies will likely stay home because its convenient and take their families to the game. Everyone will not do it but I would bet a majority of the team sticks around. No travel = ample rest. Home game = ample player perks.

When the game is not in your city there is a much larger incentive to travel somewhere. But most of these players have a nice home already near Philly and their families will likely travel there if they do not reside in Philly full time.

I'm sure you're right, but it's also still a lot of work to go to all these events if you're not participating. In any case, I'm confident that both MLB and the Phillies are eager to maximize the number of Phillies who are in the mix.

Harper specifically said he won't do the Derby if he's not on the team, but he'll probably make the team in the end. Schwarber already did both last year, but I'm sure he would love to try and win it for the home fans (the Derby that is, he already won the ASG).

And of course, Mike Trout will be there in red pinstripes.

More like 3.5 decades of AL ASG dominance. From 1988-2022, the AL went 28-6-1 against the NL. The NL had a couple of three game win streaks and the tie in 2002 and that was it. That, however, was preceded by the NL going 26-4-1 from 1960-87 (they played two ASG's per season from 1959-62). The two leagues are remarkably 32-32-2 in the last sixty-six ASG's.

This is actually just a community post, AF or any of us would have written something better! Not that it isn't entertaining (nor are the TGP's regular columnists actual reporters). But in the end it's really just throwing every name against the wall, and also filled with nonsense that shows just how weak the market is since most of the people mentioned aren't real options, or even appealing ones in many cases

Skubal also was too important to dare mention too. Hyping Langford, a .238 hitter! All this to say there's nothing exciting out there. Coulda started with the conclusion.

Regarding game #3 against the LAD, so that's why they're the champs! When an important game comes, they're on it. OTOH, the disappearing Phils might show up, might not. Was hoping for more from the Phils. The luster of the Padres sweep didn't last. The Painter experiment is about over, but there's nobody available to replace him.

Wonder how many more games Garcia will start? The answer should be none. There goes another $10M flying away into the sky.

The Phillies have a depressing trend of ending the careers of formerly good hitters (Gregorius, Harrison, Merrifield, Kepler). For sure, some of them were already on the decline when they arrived in Philly, but Garcia is heading toward continuing the trend.
