Well... Harper was drafted at age 17. He's an extraordinary baseball player; but with regard to pretty much anything except baseball, he's basically uneducated. Moreover, as a star athlete as a kid, he wouldn't have been pushed to focus on anything except his game.
Harper has very little basis for sorting out reality from fiction, when it comes to nutrition, medicine, science...well, pretty much anything.
We tend to think of star athletes as role models, as exemplary people. There are exceptions, of course... but most of them are poorly educated, not deep thinkers. They may be decent, or really good people, but expecting them to have informed, nuanced views on all the things that impact real life, outside the limited world of professional athletics, is pretty naive. They're mostly just jocks.
