(OT) Penn State Football - James Franklin no longer

Of the top-10 teams in the current AP poll, six coaches got their jobs without head coaching experience. Curt Cignetti came to Indiana from James Madison. Mike Elko came to Texas A&M from Duke. Kalen DeBoer made a big jump to Alabama from Washington.

And then there’s the splash guy of this cycle, Lane Kiffin, who was fired as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and USC before he was 40.

What are James Franklin, Lane Kiffin and others’ perfect coaching fits?

The six without: Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning, Brent Key, Clark Lea, Kalani Stitake (BYU is tied for 10th so Mario Cristobal should be the fifth guy on the other list).

The pick for the PSU job is Bob Chesney, which I like.

Where do they think Franklin will end up?

Virginia Tech. I think he's a tough sell to LSU or Florida (or Florida State) and that plays to his regional strengths. But I could see him going to a lower-tier SEC team (even back to Vandy).

Rhule gets a 2 year extension which increases his buy-out to 15 million dollars...

One assumes he wouldn't do this if he wanted to leave (and indeed, he used PSU as leverage). But if he still wanted to and Penn State wanted him, what's another $10 million (buyout was previously $5M)? The Panthers had to pay $6 milllion to hire him away from Baylor.

Rhule isn't really setting the world on fire at Nebraska...

Probably a little of both. His family sounds settled there. And coming home isn't always the best thing either. He didn't just go to PSU he went to State College High. He inherited a mess at Nebraska though, I think he could win at Penn State

Feels like Elko is getting a lot of smoke, but hard to land him if the Aggies are firmly playoff-bound.
