The polls and election models may have mis-calculated the level of anger, frustration and motivation of the Trump coalition, but the demographic and cultural shifts in our country are real.
Minorities are growing at faster rates than whites and starting to flex their political muscles more actively.
Young people, in general, appear to be more socially liberal and inclusive.
Obama and Clinton both tapped into those dynamics; Clinton, however, was not half as good a candidate as Obama and faced a more formidable challenge of the master manipulator, Trump, but an even more fired up electorate determined to overthrow the "elites" of both parties. Remember how successful Bernie Sanders was in the primary hitting on the same notes.
This may be a counter revolution, but likely to be a short one unless the Republicans really deliver in the next 2-4 years. They have all the levers of power and have a rabid base wanting results. The party splintered during the election cycle and I do not believe they have the brains, integrity or spine to heal the party divisions, much less the larger national ones. The heat and smoke will be intense as it was during the election, but I doubt they do much of anything to truly improve people's lives.
Thus they will be in the cross hairs the next time this voting bloc looks to assign blame. One could see this as the last gasp that is likely to fail and allow a regrouped Democratic party, hopefully after serious soul searching and revamping, a way back into the halls of power.
My other hope is a legitimate 3rd party will emerge to challenge both substance-free parties with a strong agenda based on strengths from each one - Bloomberg would be my choice as the candidate, but I'm not sure he wants to jump into this fray.
Regardless, I hope people realize now that being involved and working to help is more important than ever. To really have Love Trump Hate, we need workable solutions that people will support.
