Organizational Hierarchy (Players)

I know we've talked about certain positions and prospects regarding where we think they will ultimately play on the Phillies, but I wanted to document the board's consensus currently for the various position and rotation hierarchies. The bench and pen are harder to quantify now so I'm leaving them out.

I'll take my swing to start, but please jump in as many know more about the farm system than I do.

Jesmul Valentin is putting together a nice season in AA at age 22. I would probably put him on the 2nd base list over Sweeney who at age 25 is struggling in AAA and is probably a candidate for release at the end of the year.

Other than that I think the list is quite inclusive.

1B:
Joseph - because the power is for real, and he looks fluid fielding
Hoskins - can't do much more than he's done since his first month at Williamsport
Z Green - may have missed too much time, 23 at Clearwater
[Ortiz, Cozens, both have bodies that may mean they end up at 1B]

2B:
*Hernandez - inside track if he can build on his last month

Valentin - making steady progress but Reading stats aren't trustworthy

Kingery - has made steady progress in all aspects of his game
Tobias - can hit but is old for Lakewood and his future may be as a utility man
*Brito - $650K bonus, SS at GCL, but probably 2B in his future

SS:
Crawford - da man, ETA 2017

Galvis - placeholder for Crawford, utility man or trade bait

Canelo - hit tool needs work, can field, and is 21 at Clearwater

Cumana - little (5'5) big man, at Lakewood

Gamboa - $900K bonus, started slow but holding his own in Williamsport at age 18

3B:
Franco - as long as his fielding improves, he's there for a decade
Martinez - showing improvement but time running out
Walding - bat finally coming around, good enough fielder and young enough to have a shot
Hernandez - 21 at Lakewood, starting to hit and young enough to have time
L Williams - has the tools to be the best prospect at 3B
Stobbe - SS who'll move to 3B, off to a good start

LF:
*Asche - his fielding has improved, can he sustain his hitting revival
*Williams - breathing down Asche's neck
Goeddel - showed flashes but needs a year in AAA ball
Pullin - don't believe his AA performance, has to sustain it for a while to convert me
Randolph - the best pure hitter of the group

CF
*Herrera - could be great, comes down to discipline, too erratic right now

Quinn - has to stay healthy, has great tools

Tocci - reminds of the Alou brothers
*Coppola - Revere who knows how to draw a walk and can field
*Moniak - blue chip prospect
*Stephen - good prospect who'll push Moniak

RF
Altherr - can he pick up where he left off last season?
*Cozens - raw tools, has to put it together, on the verge
Pujols - great tools except is really raw as a hitter, literally hit or miss
Ortiz - so far, looking as advertised

C:
Rupp - overachiever or late maturing catcher?
Alfaro - starting to have his performance match his talent
Knapp - disappointment so far, hit tool shouldn't have dropped off this far
Grullon - doesn't have to be a great hitter, good power and great defense a nice combo

Vfk,, I wouldn't even put Appel on the list, much less next-up after the top 5. Other than his draft position there is nothing that implies he is a prospect. He has gotten hit around every season except his first in low A.

He just is not a prospect based on his results.

AF's list demonstrates just how deep these franchise is, we just need it to grow. Guys like Galvis and Altherr are in danger of losing their spot because we have so many up and coming players, that would not have been true....well...ever, in this franchises history.

Add on the about 80-100M/year we could add for the next few years and this is going to be fun

This is an interesting activity and in lieu of yet another top 10 or 30 list, it's not a bad idea. It's fun to think that most if not all of these guys are actually C level prospects or better (obviously many A and B).
