Wilson hasn't played enough this year to truly show he can't handle the RHB bench role, which he has adequately in the past. But he's not an OF. Thomson took the blame for not having Kepler hit for him yesterday, which also would have improved the defense and avoided that play.
But both of the names you mention are also not OFs (or good defensive players at any position really). If they can't play Kepler against LHP, they need one.
But we've seen how they've repeatedly failed to fill that role over the last three years: Pache (and no other bat acquired in 2023), Merrifield, Hays. They either need to go big on an everyday player at the deadline (and trade Kepler or Marsh) or it will just be yet another Hays or Tommy Pham type.
