Browns are making some smart moves here, especially if they now turn around and send Osweiler somewhere for other picks. They have massive salary cap room, so much they could never spend it all, so this is a nice way to use those financial assets to gather other assets. (and yes, my first thought is it would be nice if the Phils would actually do the same more often).

That's a pretty amazing deal for Cleveland. They give up a 4th to get a second in exchange for taking a $16 guaranteed salary from Houston.

They gave up a 4th in order to get a future 2nd, a current 6th, and take on salary cap.

The brilliance is that Osweiler has more value now that his dead money cap hit has already been paid by the Texans. Despite the reports that the Browns might simply cut him, I believe there is language in the CBA that does not allow teams to trade cap space (which this trade would be if Osweiler is cut).

At some point the Cowboys are going to get hit with a "failure to maintain institutional control" penalty, what is this 5 players this off season? (Article says 3 suspensions, but there have been other issues also, maybe just wishful thinking given my opinion of the Cowboys)

According to league sources, the Houston Texans are trading quarterback Brock Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick to the Cleveland Browns.

Browns are making some smart moves here, especially if they now turn around and send Osweiler somewhere for other picks. They have massive salary cap room, so much they could never spend it all, so this is a nice way to use those financial assets to gather other assets. (and yes, my first thought is it would be nice if the Phils would actually do the same more often).

Osweiler is still with the Browns, honestly I had to look. The deal seems less smart now, but still pretty brilliant. If they move Brock for something during the year or during training camp this could be absolutely genius. Osweiler is a better QB than he showed in Houston last year, my guess is he is first one up when a "big" injury happens and Cleveland will reap the rewards of having this asset on the team with no real intent of having him be the QB of the future.
