Looks like Sixto Sanchez may have reached the end of the line. He signed with a Mexican League team in the offseason but was released before the season started. Baseball Reference does indicate that he's pitched anywhere.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. My memory is that some people were very vocal about the pain of trading Sixto. It will be interesting to see if the trade involving Abel and Tait ends up the same way.

It does seem that more often than not, that prospect we hate to trade ends up not being all that great. Of course, there are some who end up being very, very good and we mourn their loss for years.

And at the time they could afford to trade Sixto because they had Spencer Howard coming next.

But that is also pitchers. TINSAAPP etc. And two full seasons of the best catcher in baseball worth quite a bit more than 2 1/2 seasons of a closer (though given the volatility of both that position and an are like that I'd settle for 1 1/2).

At the time it was a significant investment. Sixto began well with Miami, but lost over two seasons to inury and was never the same.

Lost three years, actually. Shoulder injuries are a killer.

At the end of 2020, it looked like the frade would end up being a disaster. Sixto looked like the next Pedro Martinez for the Marlins who went to the Postseason and won a series while Realmuto was set to become a free agent (and Steve Cohen was supposedly ready for him with checkbook open) after not so much as playing for a Phillies team that finished with a winning record.

A truly spectacular failure by the Mets, which hadn't really settled its front office yet. But at the time even some Phillies fans were arguing that we should settle for the more affordable McCann. Once he got out of there he wound up being an adequate back-up and is actually having a decent short season this year (he was in the minors and then DFAed by Atlanta at the end of June]. But he's been nowhere near JT.

I read them for the schadenfreude, but also it's nice to see positive comments on the Phils, since you don't get much of those on some of the ones for our team.
