Like I said, it's Black Monday in baseball!
There's a hitting coach available.

And the Zach Gienke maneuvering begins. He is the number one arm that might be acquired for almost nothing in terms of prospects (maybe he is a number two at this stage of his career but he is still pretty good). Coming off a poor season he is probably not seen as worth the dollars left on his contract. Of course I would want to do very extensive medical work on him - but he is intriguing. He is also the type of pitcher that would probably be fine losing a little velocity as he ages. He rarely throws his max velocity anyway.
It will be interesting to see what Arizona does this winter. If they're going to trade Grienke, they should probably look at going full re-build and see what kind of prospect haul they can get for Goldschmidt, Pollock, Segura, etc.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
LaRussa not fired from the Diamondbacks organization but relieved of CBO responsibilities. Yeah, he should have quit while he was ahead as a HOF manager and not tried to pursue a second act.

Big ego....
In a bizarre roster move made during just this past weekend, the Pirates placed Sterling Marte on the 15 day DL despite not having to do so (rosters expanded, season ending anyway). The suspicion is that Pirates wanted to send a message to Marte whom the Pirates didn't think worked as hard as he could have to get back to action before the season ended.

This is a truely disturbing piece of legislation. It's bad enough that MLB is exempt from the anti-trust laws and receives such huge government largess. And to have the nerve to call it the "Save the American Pastime Act" is truely revolting! cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-i ... n-but-why/
