I have often felt this is a difference between good and great players. The Tony Gwynn's of the world never gave away an AB. There are guys that actually do think "I already have x today, lets see if I can hit a HR". Honestly, when you are talking about players that may get 650-750 PAs in a season it is pretty hard to imagine bearing down on each one.

John Kruk only ever had a few All Star game at bats, but trust me he was happy just to survive one of them and thrilled to go back to the dugout and watch the rest of his life pass before his eyes.

Hehe, I thought you meant Nola. Yea, Nola didnt really "conquer" Lakewood, but that is pretty pessimistic to send him there.

Probably more games in which he doesn't have a hit at all. When you can't get up to the Mendoza line, that doesn't leave room for a lot of multi-hit games. For a contact hitter, striking out in a third of his ABs is a big problem. I'd leave him in CLW and have him repeat the level next year. He didn't have a great 2016 in Lakewood, but his offensive stats were at least decent. Is he too focused upon proving he has power this season. His HR-rate is up 5-fold, and his walk rate is up slightly, but everything else stinks.

The Iron Pigs win on 7 innings of shutout relief pitching -- big difference from Phillies pen. Perhaps some of these guys could help the big club. 40-man issues, but Venditte up to 15 IP without allowing a run, He walks too many, but the K-rate is also eye-popping.

Bodies are bodies when it comes to relief pitching, the issue hasn't been the talent level of the journeymen, just the lack of 40-man space. Last year, they could freely shuffle guys on and off, both in general and in between calling up replacement starters, and would still always have another guy available, even when some of them couldn't be called up for 10 days. This year Luis Garcia is all they have, untill they open up another spot.

Venditte probably deserves to be up. He should be able to eat innings and the switch-pitching might make him good the first time through the lineup. He is really not that good, but probably can add some consistency and flexibility.

I remember someone on another team being able to do this when I was about 14, but I don't think I have ever actually seen it at this level.

He does have a zero ERA. As I said, he is not that good, but he seems to be pitching well enough to eat innings and you never have to switch him up for the opposite side arm.
