I was at the Reading game--the Fightins won, 3-2, on a sac fly by a pinch-hitting Haseley in the bottom of the 8th.

Real quick observations from an untrained eye...
*I thought C Randolph swung the bat pretty well tonight. He homered to straight away right and lined a sharp single that ate up the shortstop.
*Pujols seemed to guess wrong all night. Had the usual trouble with slow stuff.
*Viza was only up to 91 mph. He's just an org guy, nothing special. But I think everybody knows that.
*Dohy is interesting, up to 93 mph with a cross-fire motion that I can imagine being hard on LH hitters, but also hard to command in terms of a consistent release point. He threw enough strikes tonight though he did run some deep counts.
*I really like Edgar Garcia. I don't know what the heck happened to him for a month or so there earlier this summer, but he's back to himself. He was up to 96 mph with a nasty slider tonight, about 85 mph. I think he's eventually going to make it to the Show.

We were at Allentown last night, I'll also add a few observations:
1. Araujo did not impress -- FB 86-88 with no touching anything higher, he got rattled after a cheap, slow roller hit to SS and walked the next batter giving up a run in the first, no runs next 4 innings, but threw too many balls so pitch count was too high
2. Crawford looked far from ready to return to Philly after injury. His timing/eye were not back and his ABs were poor. Did not get to see much of him in thee field: the slow grounder was impossible, a play to his right was muffed by 3B before it got to him, a good play to his left on the shift almost at 2B.
3. Meneses played RF. No problems, also the ball rarely went that direction

1. Altherr also isn't forcing his way back to Philly
2. Windle looked as good as I've seen him the past 2 years. FB basically 90-91 with a T92, but the funky motion must make it seem faster

It's hard to see a path for Altherr or Crawford to make the playoff roster though I'm sure they will be happy to have them as defensive replacements in September. I forget who it was but someone predicted the Pigs will get cleaned out before the playoffs and end up using a lot of Reading players, i.e. no leaving guys down there for an extra week or two. Of course there aren't that many players on the 40 who can actually go up. Will they let De Los Santos and Suarez make starts or will they be up on 9/1?

De Los Santos needs to be up, the Phillies playoff drive is more important than Allentown's AAA playoffs. Given Suarez's last start, he can stay in Allentown until the playoffs are over. I'm tempted to leave Crawford and Altherr down in Allentown for the playoffs. They are not setting the world of AAA afire and it will serve their development better to play in the AAA playoffs than to not play in Philly. Seeing how hapless these guys looked at the plate last night, I can't imagine them succeeding on a PH or come in to defend and 1 AB/game basis. Their timing is shot at the moment.
