Random Sunday Prospect Question: how do you rank the 1Bs in the system. Include Joseph, Hoskins, Cozens, Hall, Pickett

1. Hoskins - on the doorstep and looks like a mid-level MLB starter
2. Cozens - More valuable in the OF than 1B though. Power is greater than Hoskins but contact is less at this point
3. Joseph - Below average ML starter, still young enough to improve a bit
4. Hall - 3-year college player, though on the younger side, still needs to move up a level to impress. College draftees should do well in Lakewood, especially 1B where the power is expected
5. Pickett - Too much projection needed at this point though one could say his ceiling (with a 1% chance of getting there) might be greater than anyone else on the list or at least equal to Cozens

Of course Ortiz also has an even greater ceiling than Pickett. Hoping he can stay in the OF through his mid-20s at least. It is a good, deep list though. No obvious superstars yet, and while it is a position that is relatively easy to fill, we do have depth.

Very nice article and shows the strength and things to work on for four of our top guys on the team. Ortiz seems to be coming into his own. Howard didn't really learn to deal with breaking pitches until half way through his Reading year, so Ortiz has plenty of time.

I wonder what it will take for us to start to believe that he is a top prospect again? Maybe that isnt possible, maybe he is just average/slightly below average ML player in the future, but top prospects dont have a half season in AAA like he has just had (and yes, someone is going to find exceptions to that statement, please dont bother digging up the 1-5% that had a bad year).

I think plenty of us still believe we are going to be watching JP Crawford play shortstop for the Phillies for the next 2-3 years (and hopefully a lot longer). I mean, he's fixing to replace someone with a career .656 OPS (and just .700 this season). He doesn't have to be Rollins. He doesn't even have to hit .240 (so long as his OBP is still 100+ points higher, which it is).

Plus defense and high OBP are very valuable things. Folks need to stop judging Crawford at first blush with his OPS all the time. It is just a bad stat for which to evaluate Crawford.

Galvis is simply a better player right now, if you're gonna think Crawford has turned the corner after a good week, how about Freddie and six excellent weeks?
There's no reason to rush Crawford, another year in AAA might not be the worst thing for him, then figure out where to play everyone until someone makes a good offer.
Kingery on the other hand, is forcing Hernandez out of the picture, he's not having a good season, he's having "the next Utley" season.

The only issue is Crawford's development, it doesn't matter who is "better" right now on this team. Heck, bring up some rookies and let them struggle, if it helps lock down the 1-1!

But sure, I could definitely see Crawford hanging around Allentown until next July (or at least May for service time reasons). And keeping Galvis for his utility and experience until then is okay, should they choose to. They can afford him. He could also play 3B. But if the right deal for Galvis came along, whether it's in two weeks or in November, I'd have no problem going with Crawford. Heck, I'd have no problem going with Blanco.
