Following up from fish’s post yesterday, here is the sad news on our top-10 2024 draftees:

(No. 27) – OF Dante Nori, Northville High School (MI) -- hitting .229 at CLW, not striking out, but not hitting either
(No. 63) – OF Griffin Burkholder, Freedom High School (VA) -- hitting .158 at CLW not getting on base or hitting for power
(No. 100) – OF John Spikerman, University of Oklahoma (OK) -- played very little (injured?)
(No. 130) – 3B Carson DeMartini, Virginia Tech (VA) -- hitting .246 at JS, which isn’t bad for that environment, but striking out at a prodigious rate
(No. 162) – OF Carter Mathison, Indiana University (IN) -- hitting .136 at CLW
(No. 192) – C Kodey Shojinaga, University of Kansas (KS) -- hitting .261 at CLW, good eye, no power
(No. 222) – OF Joel Dragoo, Presbyterian College (SC) -- hitting .175 at CLW, good eye

Probably not this year but at what point does it become a fair question? Barber was just promoted to Assistant GM in '23 (at the same time as Mattingly who has since become GM) but he wasn't hired by this front office and this will be his sixth draft. If Abel, Crawford, Painter and Miller are all on the 2027 Phillies does that mean he killed it or is the overall thinness beyond that still too disappointing?

Of course, he's also not had a good position in the draft (and, in a lot of years, also lost picks) nearly his entire tenure. Arbuckle was good at his job but also got to pick high for a while. Almaraz got to pick high but mostly blew it.
