I guess I am not surprised. Painter will not pitch in the future's game. Starting Tuesday and it would only have been 3 days rest before the Saturday game.

And I guess the definition of "Julyish" could just as easily be August.

"We will keep him on our plan," manager Rob Thomson said Monday. "There's nothing that says he's coming up here at all. He's got to be healthy. He's got to be pitching well. We've said that all along."

Not sure we have heard Nola is even throwing yet, so he is probably out until at least August.

Guessing they are seriously considering an Abel/Painter flip after the ASB if Abel continues to struggle. Wednesday will be a test for him in the heat.

Nola's definitely out 'til August including rehab starts. But that Thomson quote seems to imply that they don't consider Painter to be ready either. At some point you'd think Painter should just deplete his innings count in the majors but I could just as easily see them sticking with Abel or giving Rangel a chance, since the bar for a 5th starter isn't usually that high. Of course four weeks of awful production from that spot still cost them the best record in the NL last year, you don't want it to cost them the NL East this year.

It's actually not gonna be too hot Wednesday. Hopefully less humid too since there's still storms coming. Tonight could have delays.

I guess I don’t understand the logic of sending a pitcher to an all-star game where he can’t pitch. Save the plane ride; send another guy.

For the experience. I would say it's up to him. In theory all the AAA players get a few days of vacation just like the big-leaguers. I don't think this is the sort of game where you have to replace someone on the roster.

Maybe the 7-inning length (as opposed to 9) is because it is tough finding 18 organizations to let someone pitch an inning.

For our ML All Star candidates that last series goes Suarez on Friday, Wheeler on Saturday and Sanchez on Sunday. So Sanchez is probably out and we'd leave it up to Wheeler and Ranger.

I can't imagine it's that hard when there's still 30 teams and four levels. But it's probably not a product that needs to be nine innings. They also play the Celebrity Softball game (same ticket, five innings).

When I had season tickets to Round Rock in its AA years the All-Star Game, which included all the leagues and still divided teams by AL vs. NL, was really fun. I guess the AAA game survived a lot longer (until COVID). I imagine the players are happier getting the break (and probably didn't get paid that well to appear in it).

I think Baseball America/MLB has the final say on the Futures Games roster. I don't think the Phillies have any ability to substitute someone.

I wasn't thinking it would be a Phillies player, but if they do actually need to replenish the roster I'm sure there are guys who just missed an invite they could ask.

It's pretty unusual for a guy in AAA to be in this game anyway isn't it? Just a quirk of Painter's injury/timeline. I was actually surprised he wasn't in it already (or was he?).
