FCL Phillies enter the day with a record of 13-33.

Our whole minor league system is a disaster in terms of team W/L this season. I’d like to hear a detailed analysis as to why...is it the pitching? Is it not enough minor league veteran filler? Is it prospects crashing out or getting injured at every level (Saltiban, Nori, Burkholder, Chace, Graves, Rincon, McGowan)? Are we pushing guys too fast? What are we doing that is causing all those losses?

Should we care about records? I don't know the answer but I guess I've never really focused on records. We seem to have a good amount of prospects..

I would say it comes down to three main factors for me, plus a bonus FCL problem.

• The talent acquisition has been poor, the last two drafts in particular have given them very little to work with, and the dev side hasn't covered up for mistakes.
• The pitching is really bad. They have invested nothing in the draft and when coupled with injuries has just made it really rough.

• They have consistently gutted the middle class prospect in trade. They haven't made the big deal, but when coupled with the first few things they really are missing a lot of what would make up prospects like 8 to 25 in a solid system.

• Bonus FCL thing. The defense is complete garbage. I am not sure why Jose Familia (20 errors) is as bad as he is, but Francisco Loreto (20 errors) is playing out of position at 3B and it is really rough. The rest is not particularly great either, but it is making the pitching issues worse because they have to work so much harder.

Great starts from Abel and McFarlane tonight

Abel’s approach tonight was back to the fastball at the knees, and then trying to establish the breaking ball down before going up with his fastball (the credit should probably go to Stubbs). I got the sense in his last few starts with the Phils that they wanted him to be able to live up in the zone with his fastball which he struggled with and resulted in all the homers.

McFarlane was in the zone consistently with his fastball and slider- not much of a third pitch which makes me think he could take off as a reliever next year after getting him more innnings.
