It is very hard not to be super excited about the season Luis Garcia is having in the GCL...at 17,

I’m very curious as to how the experts view Garcia. Is he a top 25-50 level talent?

I think he'll be top 100 but towards the back end. He would need to show some power and do things at a higher level to be top 50 IMO. He has tools but they are not LOUD tools. In other words it is good defense but maybe not gold glove defense. Good but not great speed. And 10-15 HRs, not more. It is a pretty good package if he is hitting close to .300, but there is so much risk in projecting any 17-year-olds that I imagine the prospect lists hedge their bets on him to some degree.

Probably among the top 3 or 4 prospects in a pretty deep GCL I imagine.

They have to stop running Tom Eshelman out there until they figure out what is going on. He has hit a wall. Only good news is that after 6 BBs last game, none tonight. But he is better than this, or at least was better than this. Some time in Fla might get him back on track.

He's not just hitting .300 though, he's hitting .369, leading the league easily. He's 20 points ahead of the next teenager (who is 18) in the league, leads the 21-year old second place hitter by 15 points. And his OPS is over 900. I think he at least scares the top 50, and he could be the top prospect in the GCL, but there are a lot of good choices in the league, and andy may be right that they are more likely to reward loud tools in teenagers.

Nice job by Dohy stranding the bonus runner for the Reading win. Canelo drew a walk-off-walk after Randolph got a key single putting Reading's bonus runner on third.

To be clear the comment about hitting .300 refers to whether he would have the ability to do that in the big leagues. Consistently. It is just really hard to do that. There are 19 players in the majors this year hitting .300 that quality for the batting title. There are only 3 over .316. Lots of players hit for a high average in GCL. Garcia has a .413 BABIP. He has decent speed and is hitting the ball hard. But there is probably some luck that is pushing him from .320 to .369.

I love Garcia. He is a good example of why you pay a premium for really skilled players. There just is a lot of development ahead of him and there are players with louder tools. He is really good. Just hard to tell how good at this point because physically he is not obvious like a Vlad Guerrero.

Just noticed this scouting report too. Next to Groshans who was a HS number one pick in GCL this year (though probably one who will shift to 3B over time).
