Interesting. If the reported bonus for Ho Hua was approximately correct (~$700k), then the Phillies didn't need this additional $250k for that signing. Somebody else about to be signed?

I legit think that the Phillies believe that an international draft is coming and are trying to get as many worthwhile guys in this period as possible before the system changes

The bonus will reportedly be $500,000 which is the exact amount they acquired after the Park signing via the Derek Hill trade and this, and then the signing was wildly circulating today.

I have them with $490,000 unaccounted for but also 14 players without bonus amounts, so I would suspect they are essentially out of money given the timing of everything.

Yeah, your numbers are the same as mine, with the exception that you've included Ho Hua, while I'm waiting until that signing actually appears in the Phils' transactions.

This of course explains the delay in signing. I guess they knew they could acquire the slot money but were just not sure which team wanted to offer it.

MLB really should report a better accounting of each team's available money. They do it with the regular draft. Not doing here just makes the international market a little shadier than it needs to be.

I suspect that they actually do provide the 30 clubs with details of signing bonuses, and just treat that information as private — known to all the clubs, but not shared with the public.
