The problem is our lineup is getting old. We shouldn't want it to get older and more expensive. I think 4 years of Schwarber and 3 of J.T. doom too many future seasons. Last year and this were our best shots in the playoffs. Our older hitters can still excel against average pitchers, but have lost too much to succeed against plus pitchers. All hitters have problems with plus, plus SP, but our guys seem to have done worse last season and this one in playoffs. Running back the same guys, only a year older, has little chance of getting it done. We had plus SP. It wasn't enough.
I want to clarify my comment on Casty. in saying sending 'some' of his salary won't get a trade done, I didn't mean I didn't want to trade him. I see removing him from the team as essential. It will take moving 75-80% of his salary, but it must be done. He is a very entitled and now disgruntled player, whose days as even an average performer in RF (D and O) are behind him. I'd be willing to keep him and his $ if his ego allowed him to be a happy short-side of platoon player, but that obviously is impossible.
