Sometimes you should be more skeptical.
When was the "91-93" recorded, 1st inning, after 100 pitches?
I don't believe these numbers until they're pitching in the minors with a reliable radar gun.
I KNOW Seabold can throw 90-92 b/c I watched the game and tracked his velocity over five innings.
"Gowdy’s summer kicked off with an impressive performance at the Perfect Game National Showcase in June. In his first inning, his fastball sat at 91-93 mph, once reaching 94, and he mixed in a late-breaking slider with darting action away from righthanded hitters. In his second inning of work, his heater worked at 90-92."
That doesn't mean he throws 90-92 right now, what did he throw after 50-60 pitches?
A lot of pitchers throw 2-3 MPH higher in short stints. That's why they get moved to the bullpen.
Gowdy was drafted high on PROJECTION, the Phillies figure, like many of the LA pitchers they sign, that he's going to fill out as he matures and add a few MPH and stamina.
Nothing wrong with that, but it also suggests he needs to be brought along slowly, the same way they leave some LA pitchers down until they're 20-21 and have filled out and added velocity.
When he's ready, if he's everything he's made out to be, he should rise rapidly.
