Well I agree with that but people we always clamoring for an upgrade over Stubbs, even knowing not only that anyone good wouldn't be a back-up, but that no good back-up wants to be JTs' back-up (given the pay/playing time).
The good news is whatever role Stubbs played in the pre-game meetings/scouting with the pitching staff has not been noticeably missed. Marchan has had a few bumps that you can certainly ascribe to inexperience. But (much like Sosa, or Stubbs himself), the offense he showed last year not sustainable.
