Everybody's gonna look bad when the talent level suddenly drops 25-33%. Even though none of the veterans were extraordinary, the absence of Hellickson, Kendrick, Benoit and Neris had a ripple effect, and now 25% of the offense, the team's two best hitters by far are both out. Throw in a guy who's never played LF, frequent starts by Kim, another injury to Velasquez and they just aren't that good, and when you aren't that good, mistakes and failing at the little things happen too. If they could clone Nola and come back tomorrow with Herrera, Altherr and a decent relief pitcher everybody would look a lot smarter.
This is about how good a team built around rookies and Franco, Galvis and Tommy Joseph probably should be.
