I do not buy that being more disciplined leads to less power.
Forcing pitchers to throw strikes and not chasing should provide more opportunities to hit, not less.
The goal has always been to marry both together like the 1993 or 2008-2010 teams did so, regardless of who you face at the plate, you can get on base, move guys and generate runs consistently.
That is why we have struggled to win the WS during this run. Our pitching has been our strength, but our offense can only score runs one way - by being aggressive, swinging for the fences and getting ourselves out.
That approach does not work well against the better pitching one faces in the playoffs. If we can score runs multiple ways and adjust during games to how we are being pitched, we'd likely have better results.
It may be too late for our roster unfortunately, but that is the only way I see us winning the ring. The league knows our one trick pony routine very well and how to beat it - throw offspeed crap out of the zone, get us to chase and get ourselves out. If we adjusted, took those pitches and got on base, it would force the pitcher to throw more in the zone and utilize their FB to do that. We'd have more success against that type of pitcher.
