I believe you gotta have power. Small-ball and RISP come and go much more easily than consistently being able to drive the ball for doubles and HRs. I will take the Earl Weaver philosophy every time. But OTOH..

With diminished power, the Phillies offense may be better

As with anything else I think you want a mix. It's good that Nick and JT and Trea are more selective if they don't have as much raw power as they age anyway. And Bohm has never had it. But between LF, 2B and 3B you'd like at least one guy who can threaten to go yard, and Marsh seems to have made this trade-off too.

Well like the OP said none of the young players have stepped up to compensate, though I'm not sure I ever expected Bohm, Marsh or Stott to be able to do so. This team just never replaced Hoskins in the middle of the order, and now Harper's out (and aging himself). Imagine if Schwarbs was still leading off (though it seems that hasn't gotten him many more opportunities with men on base).

I don't think the team is playing above its head though. It is built around starting pitching. Just not sure that does it in October.

Well, Sosa is still a lot better than he is against LHP and once Harper is back these opportunities won't exist to play both in the same game. But I like this line-up and it's good to see him hot since being moved out of lead-off.

The Astros offense isn't exactly lighting the world on fire either, just unfortunate they are a hair better.
