Just as an interesting side note. This years Phillies are being compared to the 1962 Mets, and with good reason. The last time this happened was in 1997 when the Phils entered a game in San Diego with a 30-72 record and comparisons to the '62 Mets being bantered around often.
That night, on July 28, 1997 a Phillie pitcher name Mark Leiter beat the Padres 8-4 and from that night till the end of the season [you could look it up!] the Phils went 38-22, merely the best record in baseball. They were led by a Kiddie Corps rotation of Garrett Stephenson, Matt Beech, Mike Grace and veterans Leiter and, oh, Curt Schilling.
Tonight, with the current Phillies once again being compared to the '62 Mets, a pitcher named Mark Leiter Jr. wins a game on the West Coast 6-1. They now have a rotation of youngsters Piveta, Lively, Leiter and veterans Nola and Hellickson.Wonder if history will repeat itself???
Probably not, but we can all dream for at least one night.
