I'm afraid the commissioner might call for an investigation of the Phillies. Surely they have to be trying to throw some of these games. Maybe it's just the bullpen.

Ramos in the tenth: Lead off double followed by a balk. Runner on third, no outs. After getting a K on Carpenter, Fowler is IBB to put runners first and third. What can happen then? Let's throw over the firstbaseman. Not to him, but over him to allow a run to score.

Morgan comes on to replace Ramos, runner on second, one out. Cards up 6-5.

Cam Perkins gets an RBI single, his second hit of the game. Now 7-6, Cardinals. Knapp lead off the inning with a line drive off the plexiglass in right and had moved to second on a ground out.

16 hits for the Phils is their high for the season. Given the Cards' early mistakes in the field, it's a wonder the Phils didn't have more runs.

Great job by Pivetta. 10Ks in 6 innings; too bad he couldn't pitch 7.

I have looked all over to find out the stats on thrown out at home. I am admittedly a novice but I can't find it anywhere. We must be going for a record. If I couldn't see him on my MLB.com screen, I would swear Samuel is invisible. He has exactly as much control over what the runner does as I do at my computer screen. I agree with Growe-- he almost got slammed into by Herrera, who clearly had no idea that a coach was required to be there. Even in Little League the runners know the purpose and placement of the coaches.

Boston Ross and I were commenting on this strange failure two weeks ago at Fenway. It seems like there has been a runner thrown out every game since. At least we must be leading the league in something!

Games like this are why I don't take their record seriously.
Name all the current members of the bullpen who you expect to be watching in two years . . . . . maybe Ramos if he develops some modicum of control.
Pivetta threw a great game until he tired at 100 pitches and gave up a walk and a HR on an 94 MPH FB on the outside edge of the plate.

This team isn't far from being competitive, either some players step up or get pushed out, but give them an average bullpen and they're close to.500 in June.

They won a lot of games last year they should have lost before Gomez wore down, this year they've lost a bunch of games an average bullpen would have won.

It's a work in progress, painful to watch, but you can see pieces starting to fall into place.

How many teams could name most of their bullpen 2 years in advance? This game was also about the offense not being able to add on additional runs when the opportunity was there multiple times.

I was told the post game shows ripped on the team more so then ever. I did not see it was it true? What did they have to say?

so according to the paper...Pete says he couldn't use his best relief pitcher because he was sore and unavailable. The relief pitcher says he was fine and ready to go. Will someone get their story straight. Which is it?

I suspect Pete has orders not to overwork Neshak, his best bullpen trade asset, between now and the end of July, after that, run him into the ground!
Right now, there are only two goals for the pitching staff:
1) nuture the young starters
2) showcase Hellickson, Neshak, Neris and Garcia and try to raise their trade value

If anyone questions Klentak's emphasis on finding pitchers who can throw strikes, just look at the bullpen this year, full of guys who throw 95-97, but can't help wallking players in key situations and falling behind in the count and grooving fastballs.

Not that it matters, but I think the date on the thread is incorrect. This game was played on 6/21 (you never know this may be the game that started the run of 10 championships, just so we can come back and look at it)
