I think things like this get criticized when a team is losing. When they are winning it is just overlooked or proves it isnt an issue.
LA has been talking about pitches after they happen. I am more impressed if he can say "this should be an inside fastball" or something along those lines, saying a pitch if "bad" after the result is known means nothing often. But to me any pitcher should be able to throw any pitch along the edges of the strike zone or outside of it pretty much anytime, and almost all of those pitches are good. If you hit the fat part of the plate it is always a bad pitch unless it is 3-0 to a guy who isnt going to swing (or to Bartolo Colon).
In today's game it is often hard to tell exactly what location a catcher calls for because I think they sometimes intentionally set up in the wrong location to throw hitters off since I suspect most have gotten very good at getting in a glance.
