Can the Phils reverse their skid? I"m ready for it.
Blackmon the Destroyer begins the game by getting on base due to an error (Joseph) and then getting thrown out trying to steal.
Saunders makes a nice play to end the Rockies' top half of the first. Here come the Phils!
BTW Blanco is starting at 3B and Knapp is behind the plate.
Galvis draws a walk but is then picked off.
Altherr also draws a walk but is erased on a FC.
I like to see the patience and good eyes!
Hellickson gives up a single but that runner is erased on a double play.
Phils coming up for their half of the 2nd.
Phils go quietly.
Rockies get a double, walk, sac bunt, then a single from Blackmon that plates 2. He's the leadoff hitter and now has 42 RBI.
LeMahieu singles, so runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out and Colorado up 2-0.
More hits and runs capped by a HR for Cargo. Sigh. 6-0 Rockies in the 3rd.
What has happened to Hellickson? He got off to such a great start and now it seems like he has gotten bombed 3-4 starts in a row.
Another game basically out of reach very early. Again, thanks for posting the game.
Clearly, it's Rupp's game-calling that is the problem.
What is even worse than this horrific May and our horrible overall record is that most of the players intended to be our tradable veteran assets - Hellickson, Bucholz, Benoit, Kendrick and Saunders -are playing have no value and our young players - notably Herrera and Franco - are regressing. Truly a nightmare scenario.
Looking back a couple of seasons and this year, I must say that signing 2nd or 3rd-tier vets to flip for prospects is probably the least cost-effective way to add talent to the system. That is why I decry the Phillies not going all out (while avoiding penalty) in the international market -- the under-23 this year and the over-23 seemingly forever. When the Phillies have spent on the over-23 international market, it has seemed to be 'look we signed someone' like MAG was signed for multi-millions, knowing he failed the physical and for some reason still never had surgery -- I guess that was left as his choice.
We seem to have lost DurhamBull.
Sorry, I took a dinner break. Besides, you don't really need me to narrate the tragedy, do you?
Bottom of the 4th with the Phils down 7-0.
Galvis leads off with a walk (second of the game) and Altherr replaces him with a FC.
Joseph hits into a DP.
The Phils are still looking for their first hit, BTW.
Klentak, MacPhail, Almarez and Jordan all must go
Rockies 5th goes ground out, fly out, walk, K.
Announcers pointing out how Herrera has been playing good defense in CF this year despite his woes at the plate.
Blanco and Herrera out quickly. Knapp up to bat.
